Under 40% of social homes delivered in Clare this year were built by Clare County Council.
A total 81 social units were completed between the start of January and end of June – 51 of which were built by approved housing bodies.
The latest figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage show 180 social homes were at various stages of development at the end of June.
Of these, 81 were completed, 23 of which were constructed by Co-Operative Housing Ireland Society Limited, with 18 built by Tuath Housing Association, 10 by Clúid Housing, and the remaining 30 by the local authority.
The report also reveals that at the halfway point of the year, 60 units were at stage one, or capital appraisal stage, while 38 were at stage four which is when a tender report has been prepared or when final approval is granted.
It’s understood one social home in the county was at the “on site” stage at this point in the year.
Of the social homes delivered in the county as of the end of June, 51 were in Ennis while 17 were in Clarecastle and 13 were in Kilrush.
Clare County Council stated at the beginning of the year that its social housing target for 2025 was 164 units, while a recent review of the National Planning Framework identified the need for 985 social homes to be built in the county each year for the next decade.
