An application has been submitted for funding that would install salt and gritting bins at all Clare schools.
It follows a raft of reports from constituents in recent weeks of children slipping, falling and sustaining injuries on footpaths and shared walking surfaces due to seasonally hazardous icy conditions.

Although the local authority lacks the sufficient resources to provide the school equipment itself, five new mini-gritters will be delivered to each municipal district next year.
Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan is hopeful the Department of Education will also intervene in a positive manner.
