Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, following the alleged rape of a 75-year-old woman in Ennis, during daylight hours.
The incident is alleged to have occurred in a car park near Ennis Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre on Thursday last at around 11.30am, after the woman was lured into a car under false pretences outside the town’s public library.
The alarm was later raised by the woman, and Gardaí used CCTV evidence to identify the car.
A 49 year old man from Co. Mayo arrested and questioned at a Garda Station in Mayo, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, has since been released without charge and a file is being sent to the DPP.
