An anti-pylon group is calling for a €380 million overhaul of Moneypoint power station in West Clare, which they say would do away with the need for a network of pylons across the country.

Research on behalf of advocacy group Rethink Pylons has said the works to Ireland's largest power station, converting it from coal to biomass, is a more cost-effective option than the Government's Grid25 project, which has been subject of intense criticism.
They estimate the total savings at around 3.4 billion euro, and say their plans would create jobs in West Clare also.
