Anger Over Facebook’s “Disturbing and Unacceptable” Behaviour

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD insists that Facebook officials must be brought before an Oireachtas Committee to explain behaviour he’s described as “disturbing and unacceptable”.

Timmy Dooley is commenting in light of an investigation, which found that the social network told staff not to remove violent content.

An undercover reporter An undercover reporter who worked for at CPL Resources in Dublin, Facebook’s largest centre here for content moderation, found that extreme content, including assaults on children and images of self harm, remained on the site, despite violating the company’s guidelines.

Deputy Dooley, who is his party’s Communications Spokesperson has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that the social media giant must answer for it’s behaviour:

Meanwhile, an Ennis-based retail lobby group has suspended its partnership with Facebook following the recent controversy.

Retail Excellence Ireland partnered with the social network to provide digital training next week and to give a talk at its conference in September.

But the group says it won’t be working with Facebook until it’s satisfied with their policies.
