There’s anger over changes at Ennis Train Station, which will see changes in how tickets are purchased there.

Customers will no longer buy tickets from a staff member, but rather from machines, although Iarnród Éireann say staff will be on hand to provide support.

But fears have been expressed that Ennis is being forgotten about.

Ennis Train Station was today described as a “ghost station” as this issue came to light.

Iarnród Éireann is implementing changes at a number of stations across the country, including Ennis, which will see the purchase of tickets being removed from the office.

The company says it’s in response to consumer demand, with more people chosing to go online or use self-service ticket facilities.

Irish Rail Spokesman Barry Kenny says their current system is out-dated.

But Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard is hitting out at the move, saying the station is effectively being disregarded.

Councillor Howard believes this latest move will be damaging for the county town’s station.
