It's claimed that new proposals for An Post-run community banking services would be a game-changer for rural Ireland.

The Dail is expected to pass a motion supporting the plan today – which is signed by a number of Independent TDs including Dr. Michael Harty – after it also secured the backing of Fianna Fail.
Under the proposals, post offices across the country would offer the same services as banks, with any profits generated going back to the local community.
Postmaster Tom O'Callaghan, who hails from Clarecastle, has been campaigning on the proposal for a number of years and insists it could be worth up to 100 million euro each year.
