The Education Minister says the amalgamation of Ennistymon's second level schools "is not too far away."
Talks of joining the schools together have been ongoing since 1997, but now land is being secured for the new school building.
The Department has acquired land in the Ennistymon area, and the religious congregation that owns existing school properties in the town has offered to transfer land to the State as part of its offer made in response to the publication of the Ryan report into Child Abuse.
Minister Jan O'Sullivan says officials in her Department are working on the project.
Meanwhile, the Department is also liaising with Ennistymon CBS about the need for replacement prefabs there.
Clare Fine Gael TD Pat Breen has told the Dáil of a litany of problems with the school's six prefabs, which were bought second-hand a number of years ago.
They are no longer fit for purpose, but the process to replace them had been held up by the planned amalgamation.
