There were almost 5,000 people on the Live Register in Clare last month.
It’s an increase of over 15% on the same time last year.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show 4,929 in Clare were in receipt of some sort of unemployment benefit last month.
4,228 people in the banner were claiming last July – meaning 700 more people were waiting in dole queues in Clare this year.
342 additional recipients were recorded in Clare this July, compared to June’s tally of 4,587 people.
This marks a jump of 7% in the space of a month, which is nearly half of the overall annual increase.
Ennis saw the largest monthly jump with 7.5% more people in the social welfare office last month compared to the month previous.
2,513 people were claiming in Ennis this July – more than half of the countywide figure.
Ennistymon saw the largest yearly increase, with an over 40% increase in the number on the live register this July in comparison to last.
751 and 670 people were on the register in West and East Clare respectively last month.
