Almost 4,600 homes and businesses in Clare remain without power this morning, in the wake of storm Isha.
Gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour were recorded at Met Éireann’s weather station in Shannon last night, as an orange weather alert was in place for this county.
The warning has since been downgraded to a yellow alert, with very strong and gusty winds forecsat up until 7 o’clock tonight.
The national forecaster is warning of large costal waves with overtopping, difficult travelling conditions, debris and loose objects on the roads for most of the day.
ESB Networks crews mobilised this morning to assess the damage, with power restored to 1,278 properties in the greater Ennis area, however 4,598 will remain without supply for a number of hours.
Properties connected to the grid at Ennistymon, Miltown Malbay, Cranny Drumquin, Corofin, Ruan, Ennis, Tulla and Killaloe are among those affected.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather says a better day lies ahead, but people should watch out for debris.
Meanwhile, 15 commercial flight diversions were facilitated at Shannon Airport yesterday and early this morning, due to Storm Isha.
Flights from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Holland, Luxembourg, Poland, and the UK diverted to Shannon Airport during the course of the Storm, while ten flights due to land at Dublin Airport, and four flights originally due to land at Cork airport, diverted to the Midwest airport.
A spokesperson for Shannon Airport says “Our airport staff worked tirelessly yesterday and throughout the night to facilitate flights impacted by Storm Isha, managing 15 flight diversions yesterday and overnight.
“We expect to operate a normal flight schedule today, and we remain available to facilitate further diversions if required”.
