Almost 3,000 On Social Housing List In Clare

The number of households on the social housing list in Clare has climbed above 2,900 for the first time in over two years.

New data from Clare County Council shows housing need is continuing to grow in this county with one and two-bedroom properties remaining the most in-demand.

As of April 4th, there are 2,939 households in this county seeking social housing.

Ennis is still the most popular area of choice with 1,261 applicants seeking a property there.

Shannon, Clarecastle and the region of Inagh, Ennistymon and Lahinch are the next most in-demand areas while Kilfenora, Kilmaley and Kilmihil have the lowest levels of demand.

One and two-bedroom properties are the most sought after, as is traditionally the case, with 2,251 households looking for a home of this nature.

On this, Clare County Council says its carrying out an assessment of the areas where the need is greatest for this property type.

It’s the first time the level of housing need in Clare has risen above 2,900 since January 2022 when 2,989 households were on the list.

It marks a 4% increase on last month’s figure and a 6% jump from this time two years ago.
