Alexander Pacteau targeted the 24 year-old from Cork when she was on a night out with friends in the city's west end in April.
She was beaten to death with a spanner.
Sentencing him, Judge Lady Rae said he had carried out a "brutal, motiveless attack on a defenceless young woman".
