Aldi Given Green Light In Ennistymon

Clare County Council has given the go-ahead for a new Aldi supermarket to be built in Ennistymon.

Aldi Stores Ireland Ltd. had sought permission to develop the store, along with associated works such as a car park, at the site of Ennistymon Mart.

Clare Marts has previously confirmed that it has sold the site, subject to planning, though this decision and a perceived lack of information had led to concern among local farmers, and in November the executive of the Ennistymon IFA branch resigned their positions en masse.

The application was also the subject of eight objections, including one from a group called the Save Ennistymon Mart Committee.

However, the Council has now given the project the green light, and attached 21 conditions including some which limit the hours in which the store can operate.

The local authority's decision can be further appealed.
