Aldi Application For Shannon Supermarket Is Turned Down

Plans by Aldi to construct a new outlet in Shannon appear to be dead in the water.

It’s after An Bord Pleanala refused planning permission for the German supermarket giant to construct a new outlet in a central location in the town.

Aldi had appealed a Clare County Council to refuse their application, and an An Bord Pleanala inspector had recommended that conditional permission be granted.

However, the planning appeals authority ultimately decided to reject the application, saying that the proposal to construct the supermarket on land designated for Town Centre or Mixed Use was not acceptable.
