Both flights diverted because of thick fog in the London area while operations at Heathrow were reduced to one runway following an earlier emergency.

The Airbus was enroute from Miami while the other aircraft, a Boeing 747-400 was travelling from San Francisco when they were diverted at a 10 o'clock and 10.23 respectively.

Both aircraft have since resumed their journeys.
