AirBnb Lettings Brought €25 Million Into Clare Economy In 2022

A new report has found that AirBnb lettings brought €25 million into the Clare economy last year.

Research from Oxford Economics shows over 250,000 guests nights were booked on the travel website in this county in 2022.

Travel on AirBnb in Clare was worth €25 million last year which accounted for 67% of AirBnb income in the Midwest region.

The total spent on AirBnb lets in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary last year was €45 million.

In this county alone, the number of guest nights booked on the travel website was 255,000 which made up 65% of the Midwest’s 400,000.

The report also highlights the “spending footprint attributable to AirBnb guests” by examining the economic benefits of tourism to local businesses, shops and restaurants.

In Clare, this spending was valued at €30 million while the spending footprint in the overall Midwest region was worth €41 million to Ireland’s GDP.

Employment linked to AirBnb accounted for approximately 5% of total tourism employment in 2022, with 5,000 jobs nationwide across the likes of hospitality, food, beverage and transport services linked to AirBnb activity.

300 of these jobs were in the midwest while 180 were in the Banner county.

The report reveals that AirBnb booking contributed over €500 million to the Irish economy in 2022.
