A flight was diverted to Shannon Airport overnight following an on-board air rage incident.
The Delta Airlines plane from JFK to Greece with over 280 people on board was forced to take the action after a female passenger became aggressive with both staff and her fellow passenger.
The plane was about four hours into its journey when the pilots contacted air traffic control at Ballycasey requesting to make an unscheduled stop at Shannon Airport.
It followed an on-board incident during which a female passenger- who its believed was intoxicated became aggressive with both staff and passengers.
The flight was about 250 miles off the Clare Coast and landed just before 4 am – the 30 year old US citizen was removed by gardaí and taken to Shannon garda station for questioning.
She was subsequently charged and is due to appear before a special court sitting later this morning.
The flight with 270 passengers and 13 crew resumed its journey to Greece at around 5.30 this morning.
