Air pollution levels in Ennis are the worst in the country for the second week running, due to people burning significant amounts of solid fuels.
Creator of the Ireland Air Quality Alerts Twitter page, Alan Bell believes that because of the geography of Ennis, a layer of smoke builds above the town on still Winter’s evenings.

He says this is mostly a Winter problem, as Ennis’ air quality is “astonishingly good” during the Summer months thanks to wind from the Atlantic.
