Increased Educational Resources Key To Driving Down Age Profile Of Clare Farmers

It’s claimed increased resources in education will be key to attracting young Clare people into farming.

A review of Irish agri-business in 2020 has just been published by Irish Farmers Monthly, which has revealed a unique insight into farming in Ireland.

One of the most stark, though unsurprising, statistics shows that the age profile of farmers is continuing to rise, with 5.9% of farmers nationwide now under the age of 35.

In 2010, this was 8.7% but in that timeframe, the number aged over 65 has grown significantly but Liam de Paor, who co-edited the report, says increased educational opportunities may play a part in addressing this anomaly.
