Clare ICSA General Secretary Accuses EC Of Putting “Unrealistic Pressure” On Irish Farmers

The Clare-based General Secretary of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association is accusing the European Commission of putting unrealistic pressure on Irish farmers to meet environmental targets.

The Commission has written to the Department of Agriculture warning that ‘more ambition’ needs to be shown on meeting climate targets before it will sign off on the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

The expansion of the Dairy sector since the abolition of dairy quotas was also singled out as a specific area of concern.
