Agreement Reached on Teacher Pay

Agreement has been reached between the Department of Education and two teacher trade unions on pay for newly-qualified teachers.

The new measures, which are said to be contingent on the introduction of reform measures, will apply to new teachers recruited since February 2012.

It will see increases of up to 2-thousand-euro for new teachers at the start of their careers. 

The announcement follows a meeting between the Ministers for Education and Public Expenditure, Richard Bruton and Paschal Donohoe, and the INTO and TUI yesterday evening.
