It was expected the former state airline would withdraw its JFK service this winter, but Aer Lingus has now confirmed it’s keeping the New York route for now, in light of Delta Airline’s decision to end its JFK service this October.

The full Aer Lingus schedule changes still include some cuts for Shannon Airport, but overall, the news has turned out to be positive

Reports that Aer Lingus could end its Shannon JFK services came as a major blow, in light of Delta’s decision to cut the same route, but the former state airline appears to have changed it’s stance on the important New York route accordingly.

The company briefed staff in Dublin on planned cuts which do include suspension the Shannon Chicago service this winter, but following Delta’s decision to terminate its service between Shannon and New York, Aer Lingus four times a week service to JFK airport will now continue, though it remains under close review.

It’s a welcome relief for Shannon, and there’s also good news in the return of another Heathrow flight – from October 25th an A320 aircraft will be based at Shannon and will facilitate an increase in the Shannon Heathrow services to 3 per day subject to confirmation of slots.

The Aer Lingus service from Shannon to Boston will also be maintained, as part of the Aer Lingus winter schedule, which in the end turned out to hold mainly positive for Shannon
