Aer Lingus has announced a 20% increase in capacity on the key Shannon-Heathrow route.
From October, a bigger Airbus A320 plane will fly on the service, meaning up to 25,000 extra passengers will avail of the service.
Passenger numbers are expected to take off at Clare's Airport this winter with the introduction of the larger plane on the Shannon-Heathrow route.
By replacing the current Airbus A319 with the A320 model, passenger numbers going to and from Heathrow will rise by up to 20%.
Capacity on the weekly Lanzarote service will also rise as it too is served by the larger plane, but it is Heathrow that is seen as key given its importance as a hub for local business.
Local representatives are also hopeful that the extra incoming passengers will help generate additional revenue for the area.
