A study carried out on behalf of families’ advocacy group – AdVIC shows that 65 per cent of families are not satisfied with the length of the sentence given to the perpetrator in their case.
It found that 90 per cent are not happy with current bail laws – with 63 per cent calling for the introduction of minimum sentencing.
AdVIC’s Vice Chairperson John Whelan lost his sister and two nieces to homicide in 2008 – he says families don’t feel they’re getting the justice.
