The number of adults living homeless in Clare has increased by 25% in the last year.
The latest monthly figures from the Department of Housing shows the number of people availing of emergency accommodation in the MidWest has reached a record high.
In total, 533 adults and 210 children were recorded as homeless across Clare and Limerick in October.
Bringing the region’s total to 743 and marking an increase of ten people in the last month and 215 in the last year.
When the figures are broken down by county, 85 adults were recorded as homeless in Clare during October, which is 25% above the 68 adults living in emergency accommodation here last year.
60% of the 121 families registered as homeless in the MidWest at present are single-parent households.
Over 80% of homeless adults in the MidWest are Irish, 9% are from the UK , while 12% are from outside the European Economic Area.
Nationally, 14,966 people were registered as homeless in October – including over 4,600 children, an increase of 13.5% per cent from October 2023.
The figures represent the highest number on record.
According to the Department of Housing, it created five new tenancies in the MidWest under the Housing First plan between July and October, that are now accommodating 45 people.
