The number of people on Clare’s Live Register has increased by 23% in the last year.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that over 500 under 25s claimed unemployment benefit in Clare last month.
Approximately 4,792 individuals lined Clare’s dole queues last month, an increase of 893 from May of 2022.
Just below 50% of visits to the county’s social welfare offices during this timeframe were in Ennis.
An additional 1,087 signed on at Ennistymon with a further 731 recipients receiving their payments in Kilrush.
Meanwhile 598 people claimed some form of unemployment benefit after passing through the doors of Tulla’s government offices.
More than 10 % of those signing on in this county were under 25 years of age, representing 502 individuals in total.
Despite a year on year increase of almost a quarter on Clare’s live register, the number of people claiming unemployment benefit here has fallen in every consecutive month of 2023 to date.
