Approximately 4,792 individuals lined Clare’s dole queues last month, an increase of 893 from May of 2022.

Just below 50% of visits to the county’s social welfare offices during this timeframe were in Ennis.

An additional 1,087 signed on at Ennistymon with a further 731 recipients receiving their payments in Kilrush.

Meanwhile 598 people claimed some form of unemployment benefit after passing through the doors of Tulla’s government offices.

More than 10 % of those signing on in this county were under 25 years of age, representing 502 individuals in total.

Despite a year on year increase of almost a quarter on Clare’s live register, the number of people claiming unemployment benefit here has fallen in every consecutive month of 2023 to date.
