Acclaimed Concertina Player Appointed Digital Access And Development Officer For Clare

Acclaimed concertina player Liam O’Brien has been appointed the new Digital Access and Development Officer for Clare.

The Miltown Malbay native will facilitate the digitisation, cataloguing and increase in access to the more than 10,000 Clare-related materials currently housed in the Irish Traditional Music Archive’s extensive collection in Dublin.

The three-year position, which is supported by the Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation, aims to provide Clare people with unprecedented access to their musical heritage, inspiring cultural engagement and contributing to the social, economic and cultural sustainability of the county.

Liam O’Brien, who was awarded the TG4 Ceoltóir Óg na Bliana/Young Musician of the Year Award in 2017, will commence his work late next month from a desk at Oidhreacht an Chláir in Miltown Malbay .
