Proposed redevelopments of two prominent sites in Clare’s county town have been put on hold.
The decision to pause the Abbey Street and Harvey’s Quay projects has been taken at a meeting of Ennis Municipal District councillors and the newly-appointed Ennis 2040 DAC Interim Chief Executive Officer.
A special briefing has heard Ennis 2040 Interim COO Padraic McElwee confirm that discussions have recommenced with the Housing Agency and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage on options to progress housing at the Causeway Quarter development on Francis Street Ennis.
It comes following the withdrawal of the judicial review taken against the controversial development.
It’s been agreed that the proposed developments at Harvey’s Quay and Abbey Street will be paused in order to allow other projects to take precedence.
The proposed boardwalk and amenities at the Post Office Field are to be “further reviewed” at the request of Ennis MD’s councillors.
The Interim Ennis 2040 COO has stated the DAC is in the process of securing strategic sites in the town, having recently acquired Ashfield House.
It’s claimed the details of the other properties being considered are “commercially sensitive” but that the DAC is “confident” the acquisitions will “greatly benefit” Ennis.
