90-House Development In Sixmilebridge Refused Planning Permission

Clare County Council has refused planning permission for a 90-house development in Sixmilebridge.

Following a number of submissions from concerned locals, as well as some flood concerns, the local authority has turned down the application from Drone Vision Ltd.

A planning application for the 90-house development on the Limerick Road in Sixmilebridge was first lodged in July of last year.

Along with 90 homes, the project would consist of two garages, connections to public services, roads, footpaths, car-parking, open spaces along with a feature tower.

But it proved controversial, with a number of members of the public lodging submissions to voice their concerns against it.

Residents of the Owengarney Court estate, in particular, were concerned about the increased volume of traffic at their homes, as well as being used as an overflow parking area.

It was also noted that the green area there would become a publicly used facility, despite being privately maintained.

Meanwhile, Clare County Council requested further information from the developers, stating that there was a potential concern with flooding issues, should the houses be built.

Following the receipt of further information, the local authority has now decided to refuse permission.

Drone Vision Ltd now has four weeks in which to appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanála.
