The number of people waiting for beds at the region’s main hospital was more than double that of any other facility today.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation shows there were 84 patients on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 54 of those in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is 45 more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when 526 patients have been left waiting to be admitted at hospitals across the country.
