The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital is beginning to spiral once again.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 84 patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick, 65 of those in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is two dozen more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when there were 589 patients waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.
