80 new fathers in Clare have had applications for paternity benefit rejected since the scheme was introduced back in 2016.
Figures released by the Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphries show more than 3,000 applications have been made in the county since it began.

While 2,928 of those have been accepted by the Department, around 1 in 40 were rejected.
More than 140,000 applications have been made since the scheme’s inception, with more than 9 in 10 of these having been accepted.
