There was a marginal rise in the number of patients waiting for appointments at Ennis General and University Hospital Limerick last month.
The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund shows over 33,000 people were on waiting lists in the MidWest in June.
At University Hospital Limerick alone, there were 26,606 adults on both the outpatient and inpatient lists last month.
Of those, 14% were waiting more than a year to be called for their relevant appointments, with Ophthalmology, Vascular Surgery and Dermatology the most in demand services.
There were also 4,515 children on waiting lists at UHL last month, 5% of which had been on their respective lists for over 18 months, with Cardiology and Paediatrics having the greatest backlogs.
At Ennis General, 1,823 adults were on a waiting list at the end of June, with over 58% of patients waiting for a Cardiology appointment, with the number of patients waiting over a year to see a consultant in the discipline up 10% since last month.
There were just 67 children on waiting lists in the county town during this timeframe, where 8 are waiting more than a year for outpatient paediatric services.
