6th man in court over Ennis Feuding

A 20-year man appeared before Ennis District court charged in connection with slashing another man across the face with a Stanley Knife at the Maid of Eireann Roundabout on Sunday evening.

Bernie McDonagh Junior is the sixth person to face charges following what was described in court as "chaos and mayhem" during a flare up between members of the McDonagh and Doherty families at the weekend.

Today’s court heard that Bernie McDonagh Jnr. of 1 Ashline, Ennis was released from hospital yesterday and is now facing very serious charges

In the case, Mr McDonagh is charged with assault causing harm of John Doherty at the Maid of Erin last Sunday and two charges in relation to the possession and use of a Stanley Knife during the alleged violent incident.
 
Det Sgt. Michael Moloney said it will be alleged that Mr McDonagh slashed Mr Doherty on the face and stabbed him in the side with a Stanley Knife
 
Solicitor for Mr McDonagh, Darragh Hassett said that the presumption of innocence applies to Mr McDonagh and that he will be pleading not guilty to the charges – telling the court that his instructions from Mr McDonagh is that he was not there at the Maid of Erin.
 
Judge Aeneas McCarthy refused an application by Mr Hassett for bail on behalf of his client after Gardaí  said that the State was strongly opposed bail.
 
Judge McCarthy remanded Mr McDonagh in custody to re-appear at Ennis District Court next Wednesday, October 24th.
 
Earlier this week, Mr McDonagh’s father, Bernard Snr was remanded in custody in connection with five charges arising from the incident at the Maid of Erin roundabout in which it’s alleged that three vehicles were rammed including a garda car. .
 
Two other accused were also remanded in custody earlier this week in relation to the same incident.

Meanwhile one of two women charged with public order offences arising out of Sundays incidents pleaded guilty at a court hearing yesterday and was fined 300 euro.

The case against the second woman, also charged with public order offences was adjourned until next month.
