There’s been a significant spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.

Nurses say 69 patients were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 46 of those in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is 17 more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when 512 people have been left waiting on trolleys at hospitals across the country.
