More than a quarter of these – just over 1,600 – are ophthalmology appointments, with a further 636 relating to ear, nose and throat procedures.

542 pensioners in the regions are waiting on dermatology matters, with more than 400 each waiting on urology and vascular surgery procedures.

365 need a respiratory issue taken care of, while 347 people older than 75 need a cardiology appointment.

A further 659 pensioners are waiting on inpatient procedures in UHL, mostly in the areas of ophthalmology and gastro-enterology.

271 older people need an outpatient appointment in Ennis, with around 70 percent of those looking for a cardiology procedure.

76 people aged in their mid 70s or older need an inpatient appointment in the county town.

More than 71,000 people aged over 75 are waiting for outpatients nationally, with a further 15,000 looking for inpatient procedures.

It comes as the Health Minister has admitted Emergency Department waiting times for over 75s are unacceptable.

It’s after a Parliamentary Question to Sinn Féin’s David Cullinane which referred to national waiting times.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says they are working to alleviate wait times by taking action including enhanced primary care services.
