Ennis could be in line to receive a welcome housing boost.

Two local companies have submitted a plan for a large development on the outskirts of the county town.

In a joint bid, Custy Construction LTD and John Talty Construction LTD are seeking to build 55 new homes in the Ballymaley and Ballycorey area.

The development would consist of 16 x four bed homes and 39 x three bed-homes and involves a mixture of semi-detached, detached and bungalow properties.

130 parking spaces are also proposed for the works that would take place on a site of over 3.5 hectares.

The developers have also made a Part V planning application, meaning, at least 11 of the new properties or 20% of the land they’ll be built on has to be used for social and affordable housing.

If it gets the go ahead, the estate will be furnished with roads, public lighting, footpaths, cyclepaths and a bat house.

Clare County Council has until February 7th to make a decision and is accepting public submissions up to January 17th.
