Electric vehicle sales in Clare were up 50% from the same time last year in January.
New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show that 90 electric vehicles were registered in the first month of the year, up from 60 at the same stage last year.

These figures come less than two weeks after it was revealed Clare ranks fourth in the country in availability of public charging points, with one available for every seven electric cars on the road in the county.
SIMI Director General Brian Cooke, claims the increase seen in electric vehicle sales highlights the importance of government grants and incentives for switching to a battery powered engine.
