50% of Clare people that were released from prison in 2022 re-offended within a year.
The latest data from the Central Statistics Office shows it’s the second-highest re-offending rate on record for this county.
According to the CSO, approximately 44 Clare people were released from prison in 2022.
Of those, exactly 22 re-offended within a year, while the other 22 did not, bringing this county’s re-offending rate for the year to 50%.
Clare’s re-offending rate was also the 5th highest in the country, behind Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Limerick.
However it is a marginal reduction on the 53% re-offending rate recorded in Clare in 2021.
At the other end of the scale, Cavan and Donegal had the lowest re-offending rates in 2022, at just 12% and 13% respectively.
