Five men have been arrested following a break-in and high speed chase in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí uncovered the incident at Kilnasoolagh Park, Newmarket on Fergus following reports of suspicious activity in the area.
One man was arrested at the scene, while Gardaí later arrested four more men after they had pursued a car to Limerick city.
Gardaí were alerted to a suspicious car in Kilnasoolagh Park, Newmarket on Fergus around 6 o'clock this morning, where they uncovered a break-in being carried out at a house in the area.
One man was arrested at the scene and a short time later, Gardaí located the car reported to them.
A high speed car chase ensued through Shannon, Sixmilebridge and onto Limerick city where a further four men were arrested.
The five are being detained at Ennis and Shannon Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, where they can be held for up to 12 hours.
Gardaí in Shannon are investigating and are appealing to anyone in the Newmarket on Fergus area whose homes or cars were broken in to in the early hours of this morning to contact them on 061 361 212.
