48% Reduction In Drink And Drug Driving Checkpoints In Clare Last Year

The number of checkpoints carried out in Clare to detect drink and drug driving offences almost halved in the last year.

New figures show over 1,609 mandatory intoxication tests were conducted in the Clare-Tipp division between July and September of last year , which is 48% below the activity during this period of 2022.

The European Transport and Safety Council is now calling for alcohol interlocks, also known as immobilisers to be installed in the vehicles of convicted drink and drug driving offenders.

Fianna Fáil Ireland South Candidate Cynthia Ní Mhurcú believes the measure will save lives.
