Clare householders are being encouraged to apply for a scheme under which they could have leaks in their water pipes fixed for free.

As of March of this year, 460 households here had availed of the First Fix Free Scheme, which allows qualified applicants to have inspection and repair works carried out within the boundries of their property free of charge.
To be eligible for the scheme, a water meter must be installed on the property, while there also must be a working and accessible inside stop valve.
Irish Water estimate around 33% of Clare's supply is lost through leaks and their Water Conservation Strategy Specialist Kate Gannon says it something the utility is looking to urgently tackle.
