More than 4,400 warrants have been issued by Revenue debt collectors in Clare over the last five years.
However, new figures show the number of enforcement orders handed down in this county have rapidly decreased in recent years.
Of the 4,470 Revenue debt collection orders issued in Clare since 2017, over 1,000 occurred in that year, while nearly 2,000 were issued in 2019.
The number fell dramatically in this county in 2020, the year of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Revenue temporarily suspended its debt collection enforcement.
Just 507 such orders were issued in Clare that year, a drop of nearly three quarters on the year prior.
The number plummeted dramatically again last year, when just 26 such warrants were issued by debt collectors in this county.
51 orders were issued here in the six months to June, indicating a slight increase in activity from Revenue again as pandemic restrictions ease.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe told the Oireachtas before its summer recess that Revenue is to ‘engage with all businesses availing of the debt warehousing scheme, to agree suitable phased payment arrangements’ before the end of the year.
