Clare County Council insists it’s working to agree payment plans with owners of former Council houses now behind on their mortgages.
Figures released for Clare by the Department of the Environment show 44% of these loans here are in arrears for at least 90 days, among the highest rates of any local authority area.
In total, 167 people are at least 90 days behind schedule in their repayments, though the majority of these are at least six months in arrears.
Clare County Council has told Clare FM that it’s working to agree plans to suit clients and the Council, and that other options available include the Mortgage Arrears Resolution Process and the soon-to-be finalised Mortgage to Rent Scheme.
And while separate figures show two homes here have been repossessed in the last three years, the Council says this is only used as a last resort.
