In 2024 to date, the local authority’s Derelict Sites Team has opened files on 26 new sites.

While this is two fewer than in 2023, figures show that 40 sites have been entered onto the Derelict Sites Register in Clare which indicates a rise of 67% in a year.

Additionally, 36 notices have been issued expressing intention to enter a site onto the register, while five vesting orders have been signed.

It’s also been confirmed that seven notices have been served to acquire a site through the means of Compulsory Purchase Order.

The Derelict Sites Levy meanwhile has been billed on 10 properties to a value of €136,360.

Clare County Council claims it’s dealing with 267 properties in total that are considered derelict and says it has “very high levels of activity and engagement with owners and their representatives”.
