39 New Staff Hired by Clare County Council This Year

39 new staff have been hired by Clare County Council this year.

The majority of the workers are working full-time, but most have been hired on a temporary basis.

The recruitment embargo of recent years has led to a reduction in staffing levels County Councils here and elsewhere.

This saw Council management and local representatives express concern about local authorities' ability to provide frontline services.

This year, 39 new workers have been hired by the local authority.

These include general operatives, plumbers, engineers, planners and clerical officers, as well as a lifeguard and a Head of Enterprise.

All bar two retained firefighters are wholetime staff, though only six have been hired on permanent contracts.

All of these positions were filled following an open competition.

Meanwhile, a further 31 workers have been promoted in the Council this year.

13 of these were into permanent posts, while the rest have been hired on an 'acting' basis.
