Nearly 35,000 homes and businesses throughout Clare are to be covered by a state scheme to bolster broadband.
This is because over half of all premises here aren't covered by private operators, and means they could face a long wait for high-speed access.
The National Broadband Plan aims to deliver high-speed internet access to every premises in Ireland, and is supplemented by funding from the exchequer.
Nationally, it will cover over 750,000 homes, with 34,500 of these in Clare.
These are mainly in rural areas, with private companies already covering the main towns and also the likes of Cooraclare, Mullagh, Kilfenora, Quin, Corofin and Feakle.
Outside of those areas, however, in townlands covered by the plan, people could face a long wait before internet access is finally delivred.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the rollout of 30 meg broadband to all areas would be delayed by at least two years to 2022, ten years after it was launched.
