Public Health Midwest is appealing to all healthcare workers and at-risk population to get their free winter vaccines, to prevent a surge in flu and COVID-19 cases over the Christmas period.
Health officials across Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary recorded the highest weekly incidence of the flu virus this season, with 116 cases since October 1st, a quarter of those last week alone.
There have also been 52 recorded cases of RSV and 182 cases of Covid-19 over the same period.
High levels of flu and COVID-19 are expected in the community over the coming weeks, as people socialise over the festive season and Consultant in Public Health Medicine Breda Cosgrove says getting vaccinated can help prevent healthcare services from becoming overwhelmed.
