33% Increase In Clare Homes Approved For Planning Permission

The number of housing developments granted planning permission in Clare has increased by a third in the last year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that almost 800 homes were given the green light.

Planning permission was granted for a total of 775 homes in Clare last year, marking an increase of 33% on the 580 approved for construction in 2022.

April to June was the busiest period in the county over the past twelve months when 341 homes were approved for construction.

By contrast, the busiest juncture of 2022 was between January and March, where less than half this total at just 161 units were approved.

Of the projects granted planning permission last year, 260 were for one-off housing , 63 were for private flats and apartments, while the vast majority of 515 were built as part of multi-unit housing developments or housing schemes.

Overall last year, Clare recorded the seventh highest total of homes granted planning permission in the country.

In 2023, approximately 19,738 houses were given the green light nationwide, with over 3,300 of those in the Dublin-Fingal constituency.
