Plans are afoot to construct a thirty-metre telecommunications tower at Corofin GAA Pitch.
Vantage Towers LTD claims the structure will be essential to overcome coverage deficiencies in the North Clare village.
Enclosed in security fencing, the development would compromise a 30m monopole telecommunications support structure, together with attenas, satellite dishes and all other relevant equipment.
A geographical analysis by ComReg shows that the vast majority of the area comprising Corofin, Kilnaboy and Rath experience a clear network deficiency and are generally receiving “fringe to no coverage” with the exception of areas to the South-East of the town which receives “only fair 4G and 5G coverage.
In a cover letter, Charterhouse Infrastructure Consultants state that a failure to grant permission would have detrimental effects on the local community, leading to an enduring negative effect on mobile phone and broadband service provision.
According to the firm, the locals inability to connect wirelessly to high speed data is directly affecting the ability of residents to work from home, for schools to avail of cutting edge technology and that the day to day running operations of local businesses also continue to be impacted.
Both the Chairperson and Secretary of Corofin GAA Club , have consented for Vantage Towers LTD to develop at the facility, while both Three Ireland and Vodafone Ireland have submitted letters supporting the proposal.
Clare County Council will be accepting public submissions until February 29th, and a decision will be made no later than March 21st.
